Overview
The MQ-3 Alcohol Gas Sensor is a versatile and sensitive sensor that detects the presence of alcohol in the air. It is widely used in breathalyzers and other alcohol detection systems. This sensor can be easily integrated into various projects, making it a great tool for both beginners and experienced makers.
What's in the box
- 1 x MQ-3 Alcohol Gas Sensor
- 1 x Datasheet
Key features
- High sensitivity to alcohol vapors
- Fast response time
- Analog output for easy interfacing
- Compatible with Arduino and other microcontrollers
- Wide detection range
- Low cost and easy to use
How it works
The MQ-3 sensor operates on the principle of resistive change. When alcohol vapors come into contact with the sensor's sensitive material, it alters the resistance, which can be measured as an analog voltage output. This output can then be processed by a microcontroller to determine the concentration of alcohol in the air.
Getting started
- Connect the sensor to your microcontroller according to the wiring diagram.
- Upload the sample code to your microcontroller.
- Power on the system and allow the sensor to warm up for a few minutes.
- Start reading the analog output values to detect alcohol concentration.
- Calibrate the sensor as needed for accurate measurements.
Wiring / connections
Connect the MQ-3 sensor as follows:
- VCC to 5V
- GND to Ground
- A0 to Analog Pin (for reading output)
Tips & troubleshooting
- Ensure proper power supply to the sensor for accurate readings.
- Calibrate the sensor in a controlled environment for best results.
- Keep the sensor clean and free from contaminants.
Safety notes
Handle the sensor with care and avoid exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity. Always ensure that the sensor is used in a well-ventilated area when detecting gases.
